The Boulder Chinese Evangelical Free Church (BCEFC) is looking for a Children’s Ministry Director who will oversee the Children’s Ministry Program and help create a safe, welcoming, and Bible-centered Sunday School ministry for the children. The director will collaborate with church leadership, teachers, volunteers, and parents to help children learn God’s Word, understand the gospel, and grow in their relationship with Christ.
Qualifications
The Children’s Ministry Director candidate should:
Have a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and demonstrate Christian character, humility, and faithfulness.
Agree with and support BCEFC’s statement of faith, values, and mission.
Demonstrate a genuine love for children and a desire to help them grow spiritually.
Be actively serving in a local church and maintain a positive, established relationship with that church and its leadership.
Be able to communicate biblical truth clearly and in an age-appropriate way.
Be dependable, organized, teachable, and able to work well with church leaders, parents, teachers, and volunteers.
Be sensitive to the language, cultural, and generational needs of a Chinese-American church.
Be willing to complete a background check and follow all BCEFC child-safety policies.
Have a minimum of one to two years of experience serving in children’s ministry through teaching, volunteering, or leadership. Formal Bible college education is welcome but not required.
Have the ability to communicate effectively in English. Mandarin ability is preferred but not required.
Primary Responsibilities
The Children’s Ministry Director candidate will:
Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for the Children’s Ministry at BCEFC, ensuring the program supports the church’s vision and effectively serves children, families, teachers, and volunteers.
Be responsible for periodic program planning, such as curriculum, materials, budget, personnel, and events, at BCEFC.
Lead, teach, and coordinate the children’s Sunday School program, overseeing curriculum, classrooms, teachers, and volunteers while ensuring Sunday morning activities are well prepared and properly staffed.
Recruit, train, schedule, encourage, and support Sunday School teachers and classroom helpers.
Communicate regularly with parents regarding schedules, lessons, activities, and ministry needs.
Support parents by providing biblical encouragement, helpful resources, and appropriate referrals to pastoral leadership.
Maintain a safe environment by following BCEFC’s child-protection policies, classroom procedures, check-in and check-out requirements, and reporting procedures.
Work with the youth minister to provide a thoughtful transition for children entering the youth ministry.
Attend appropriate staff or ministry meetings and provide regular updates to the designated pastor or church leadership.
Help evaluate the children’s ministry and recommend improvements as needed.
This is a part-time position of approximately 20 hours per week, including approximately 10 hours in person at the church office during weekdays and 6–8 hours on Sundays. The specific weekly schedule will be coordinated with the designated pastor or church leadership based on ministry needs. Responsibilities beyond the regular weekly schedule, including special events or additional programs, should be discussed and agreed upon in advance.
The Children’s Ministry Director will report to the pastor or church leaders designated by the BCEFC Board. The director will receive an initial evaluation after six months and an annual evaluation thereafter.
Commitment
Because consistency is important for our children, families, and teachers, the candidate should enter the position intending to serve for at least two years, with the hope of continuing for a third year, recognizing that unforeseen circumstances may arise.
Compensation will be determined by the BCEFC Board based on the approved hours, responsibilities, experience, and church budget.
